PAT Test A Class II Appliance

8 August 2019

Before starting the PAT Test using the PB500, you must carry out a full visual inspection. This involves ensuring that the appliance is in good condition with no damage. You also need to check the plug and any leads. You can see how to carry out a full visual inspection here: How to do a full visual inspection in a Class II appliance

PAT Test a Class II appliance.

To identify a Class II appliance you can look at the manufacturers label for the Class II or double insulated symbol. If you don’t see this on the manufacturers label you will need to check inside the plug, you will do this as part of the visual inspection anyway.

Class II symbol

A Class II appliance will have a lead which contains 2 wires; a Live and a Neutral.

Class II plug

After the appliance has passed its visual inspection, turn on the PB500.

Insert the plug of the appliance into the socket on the front. Make sure the appliance power switch is in the on position if it has one.

Press the Class II button and the PB500 will automatically perform the insulation (Riso) test, and the leakage (Ileak) test.

Lo Load appears if the plug of the appliance has not been inserted into the socket of the PB500.  Or if the appliance power on/off switch is in the Off position. Or on an appliance that does not have an on/off switch.
