Competency training courses are run by Parker Bell so that you can be sure that you are competent to carry out your PAT Testing. It is important to understand that there is no formal qualification required in order to do PAT Testing. The HSE (Health and safety executive) say that any competent person can carry out PAT Testing. But; depending on your experience you may prefer to undertake formal training to be sure that you understand exactly what is involved.
To help you decide whether you are competent, you will find out free online pat testing course a good starting point. The course is completely free to do and tells you all about PAT Testing. It also covers the legislation, the visual inspection and how to use a Pass / Fail PAT Tester; such as the PB500, Seaward Primetest 100 or Primetest 50.It even covers how to keep records of your tests so that you can show your routine for the inspection and maintenance of your portable electrical appliances.

The course is held at our offices in Devon, close to the M5 and Exeter Airport. Course duration is one day starting at around 10-10.30 and finishing around 4. There will be no more than 6 participants on the course helping it feel relaxed and comfortable. The emphasis of the course is on practical learning. So although there are elements of instruction and learning, much of the learning is focused on the practical, in exactly the same way it would be in your own work environment.

The main advantage of attending the course is that you receive a certificate of competency. this certificate says that you have been observed to be competent and confirms that at the time of the course, some insurers and employers may prefer this, even though though is no legal requirement for it.
Secondly, the course will contain a great deal of practical – meaning that as soon as you start PAT Testing in your own environment, you’ll be good to go, and confident. If you are self taught, you may find that you are a little slower in the beginning while you learn the best way to approach each appliance.
