Buyer Beware: Buying a second hand PB500 (Parker Bell PAT Tester)
If you are thinking of buying a second-hand PAT Tester. It may be an excellent decision; especially if you know who you are buying from., However, regardless of where you are buying it from, there are some good reasons to check with us before you do.
The PB500 has been in circulation for nearly 20 years. The functionality of the PB500 has gradually upgraded over the years meaning they aren’t all the same. Depending on what you plan to use the PAT Tester for, you may need a machine with more functionality, like the ones shown on our website.
If you are considering buying a second-hand machine, ask the seller for the serial number, and then give us a call on 01392 364933. We can check what functionality the machine has so that you can decide if the machine meets your needs. We can also see if we have any calibration/service history on the machine. This may help you decide whether you want to buy. We would not be able to confirm whether a machine was working correctly, but we can tell you what to do to check, if you need to
The cost of repairing a PAT Tester at the manufacturer (for example if the is an internal component failure that we cannot fix in-house) now costs upwards of £200 +VAT. So, it really is buyer beware.
We have recently seen several machines for sale on sites such as Ebay and Gumtree, so please be cautious. Our machines have a fantastic reputation for reliability, but it is always best to check.
You can call us on 01392 364933 or email sales@parker-bell.co.uk.
